The National Hurricane Center reported that Helene had strengthened to a Category 4 storm on Thursday, making landfall in Florida late that evening. The 11Alive Weather Impact team has forecasted Helene to remain a hurricane in southern and central Georgia and a tropical storm as it cuts through north Georgia.
