Wall Street rallied on Thursday with the Dow and S&P 500 hitting another intraday record high — a day after the Federal Reserve kicked off its easing cycle with half-a-percentage point reduction and forecast more cuts were on the horizon.
S&P 500, Dow Rise More Than 1% To New Highs In Delayed Rate Cut Rally
Shortly after market open, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 1.3% to a new record of 42,105, the S&P 500 rose 1.6% to its new all-time high of 5,713 and the tech-heavy Nasdaq surged 2.3%, though it remains 4% below its July peak.

The tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite was leading the other two major U.S. stock-market indexes higher. The Nasdaq was up 467 points, or 2.7%, near 18,043, according to FactSet data. If those gains hold, the Nasdaq would log its best daily gain since it rose 2.
Dow leaps to all-time high — then tumbles after Fed slashes rates by half-point
After surging as much as 375 points to an all-time high after the Fed announcement, the Dow turned negative in late trading as investors digested Fed Chair Jerome Powell’s comments. The blue chip index dropped 103.08 points, or 0.3%, to 41,503.10. It hit an intraday record of 41,981.97.
