The announcement of the Apple Vision Pro headset in 2023 brought the buzz over VR and augmented reality (AR)—which overlays digital content onto the real world—to a new level.

This indicates that Apple is ready to make Vision Pro specs compromises with the most expensive part of the mixed reality headset in order to get to a much lower starting price. The current Vision Pro displays are supplied by Sony, and they are made with the rather pricey OLED on silicon (OLEDoS) technology, making them lighter and more durable.

Apple rolled out updates to all of its major operating systems this week, and the Vision Pro was no exception. With visionOS 2, the company has a chance to show the relative few who bought its spendy headset — and those who might yet — that it’s still committed to the new platform.
